This achingly cool venue is one of Camden’s best-kept secrets. Currently adorned with fairy lights, over sized flowers, animal sculptures and a large graffiti Alice in Wonderland, the Proud Gallery is a gorgeous space located within the Stables market. At the moment the gallery is Proud to present designer Ben Sherman’s ‘Five Decades, Twelve Sundays’ where different decades of British Rock are explored musically on Sunday nights. If your tempted by the signs for ‘drink me’ you can head to the rooftop bar to dabble in the array of spirits on offer and make your own little wonderland. Deckchairs lounge in a strangely summery outlook for a north London
cityscape, on them are printed pictures of music icons so you can place your royal behind on whichever rock-star takes your fancy. Intimate nightly soirees of poetry, whispered gigs and of course Proud’s highly acclaimed photographic exhibitions combine to create an atmosphere of elite elegance. And you can see that those in the know want to keep it like that. www.proud.co.uk |
Bad is big these days. If you look like reckless rebels you get
attention, if you actually are then you are capable of rousing a mob. The Bad Robots are teetering on the brink of the latter. With a new bass player, Fil, making his Proud Gallery debut with a black eye and several eyebrow-raising stitches the lawless line- up is complete. Vocal harmonies have always been one of The Bad Robots most admirable qualities, now with the addition of a fourth voice they are indulging in barbershop quartet moments, layering their gloriously charming vocals over heavily punk inspired guitar sequences.
Bumping into them - supporting none other than The Bravery - at Proud you see instantly the boys are on top form. Black eyed and bushy face-tailed they eagerly show off their sharp new suits (sponsored by Ben Sherman don’t you know) “not that anyone else will want them after we’ve been sweating in them” jokes one of the crew. |

After they properly tore the crowd up, with fans lined up at the front screaming their choruses back at them, over 200 of their demo CDs disappeared into eager hands. Over the past few months it’s evident The Bad Robots have made an exponential leap into becoming one of the biggest baddest and hottest unsigned bands around. Get bitten by the beard love now and behold them live at The Enterprise in Camden on 17th August.
