Be moved by her music...
Danelle Harvey
Danelle Harvey cannot remember a time when she hasn’t been singing, performing or writing music. As a child she sang every Sunday at her church gospel choir and dedicated time at school to learning the recorder, violin and drums. At 16 she released her first record and by 19 she was living the life of a pop star.
Always on the go Danelle has also worked as an actor and model, written music for TV and worked with musicians including P.Diddy, Meatloaf and Fun Lovin’Criminals. As if this wasn’t enough she found time to set up ‘Tygahoney Music’, the world’s first Fair Trade and humanitarian record label. The label promotes independent musicians while giving something back to worthy causes. In 2002 Danelle donated a percentage of sales on her EP ‘Home’ to Fair Trade sugar cane producers in Malawi.
Her music has been described as catchy soul, acoustic-folk-rock with classical elements and a dose of London street cred thrown in. Her songs are autobiographical: “As a teenager I would write about love. Now my ideas on life, my views and my dreams inspire me. I’m a very emotional person – I cry a lot, I laugh a lot, I feel things and I let it out”. The bad times in her life and her tough upbringing have given Danelle the empathy to identify with the dispossessed yet her songs convey a positive, life-affirming message which elevates the spirit and offers hope. The effect is a bit like singing a morale-raising hymn in church.
Summer 2008 sees the release of a new album ‘Tortured Soul’ and a promotional UK tour. Be moved by her music, her good ethics and her dynamic and influential voice.

"multi tasking social hub"
Lark in the Park Review
Located in Islington close to Angel tube station is ‘Lark in the Park’, an Independent bar/restaurant with a beer garden that accommodates 80 at peak BBQ season.
Visiting the venue as it played host to ‘Carnival de la Greque’, a Greek festival which celebrates the period just prior to lent, Lark in the Park had to suit all manner of needs, from staging a live band, serving food, right through to providing space for traditional dancers and a lively crowd.
As a relatively small and concentrated space, tradition is the order of the day. The main bar is standard with a wide variety of drinks available, comfy old couches and a television screening sport and live events. However this standard space is bookended by a conservatory on one side and a small stage on the other. The conservatory provides an airy space to dine with food ranging from snacks to a la Carte, while the stage area hosts live music every night of the week. These extra features certainly give this venue an edge over its local competitors.
A favourite amongst Islington locals the space can also be hired as a venue for private occasions. This multi tasking social hub is confident it can host any kind of knees up.

The Gin Riots
NXNE Music Festival
The Gin Riots have been asked to voyage across the pond to Toronto to attend 2008’s NXNE Music and Film Festival!!!
The North by North East Festival is the sister festival to the famous SXSW held in Austin, Texas. It’s Canada’s largest showcase for independent talent and with the bawdy sauveness of London band The Gin Riots, Toronto should be prepared for a bit of a musical tempest.

Marshall Plan
Following last year’s digital download release of their single “Lavender Hill” The Marshall Plan have been busy gigging and writing new material. The band recently played the infamous Nambucca on Holloway Road and road tested some of their new tracks. Looking forward, the band are in the process of booking more live shows and should have some confirmed dates at venues such as The Grand in Clapham Junction, 93 Feet East and The Half Moon in Putney. Later in 2008 the band plan to tour other cities across the nation.

A big welcome to our new HybridLab artists, this time round we have two new bands and three new visual artists.
First off is Lee Marshall: Digital Artist. Lee’s work explores spaces in time occurring in everyday life and environments, focusing on the mundane, futile and sometimes beautiful moments that lead us to question our routines and potential. Lee has particular interest in the role of ‘working’ environments. Having completed an M.F.A. Lee went on to work with the highly reputable Dundee Contemporary Arts Visual Research Centre.
Next up is Tim Hill, a real all rounder but can best be described as alternative illustrator/fine artist. After graduating Central Saint Martins Tim began creating stickers and went on to make sculptures out of refuse. Later he introduced narrative into his work through graphic novel style pieces and currently has a zine, Poisoned Philistine, sold in Gosh Comics. His work will feature in the April edition of Wallpaper magazine.
Also recently registered with the team is Jana Sedlakova, an accomplished Oil painter working on both portraits and abstracts.
New to our music section are Bendigo and The Double Sixers, both popular accomplished artists from different genres. Vantage Room Records is an artist led music label established to launch the debut album of Bendigo. The album, entitled Follow to the End, has a wealth of beautiful tracks. An initial duplication run of 500 albums is just weeks away and we look forward to further coverage and some live promotion of this work.

The Double Sixers are a female fronted rock band formed in 2006. The band play an energetic, revamped flavour of garage rock music. Currently gigging at well known venues across the city such as The Good Ship, the Bull & Gate, the Grovesnor, and Lark in The Park.
