Two young lads who didn’t follow their mother’s advice of “Never trust a man with a beard” are drummer Nick and guitarist Carl from badass band The Bad Robots. They have recently teamed up with beardy Ben - who it seems has staunchly followed his mother’s advice of “never trust a man who wears beige” – to play honest rock and roll to music hungry Londoners. With their album finished, gigs a’plenty lined up, the Robots have an exciting but busy year ahead.

The Anglo-Australian connection is proving to be a commanding combination. Although from a vast and distant land Ben’s own hometown Perth was small and isolated. Despite being removed from the wider world the town was like a small aromatic stew bubbling with it’s own blend of creativity that bred the bellowing Ben. With miles of uninhabited land around you, you’d have to yell to be heard suggested Ben “it’s all about getting noticed from such a small town”. The Bad Robots music is full of belting lyrics and beats that swing the punk rock and ska circuit boldly.

Inspired by the early 90s, music that fed them through the formative years, their style was influenced by a “Greenday meets Bonjovi meets Nirvana” medley. There are twists to this, Ben has a definite ACDC Rose Tattoo streak to his beard, Carl’s mother is a beautiful singer, and Nick’s grandfather was an ace jazz drummer. Don’t be misled by the band’s name or stage persona’s though, ballet and amateur opera lurk amongst the skeletons in The Bad Robot closet. No wonder they jump around so jubilantly on stage, they’re really The Bad Ballerinas at heart. Jokes aside, they’re brilliant (but I’ll let you decide at what).
