Creative Skills Challenge:
Intellectual Property and Licensing
What are we offering?
IEA is offering a series of workshops and seminar events to help you increase your knowledge on specific topics related to the running and growth of your business. These are the first in a series of seminars and events to be held by IEA designed to help increase your knowledge whilst introducing you to us and other organisations that can help move your business forward.

Each seminar also has an opportunity to network with other attendees after the talks. Refreshments will be provided.
Intellectual property and licensing
It is vital for every small business in the creative industry to be aware of – and protect – their rights regarding IP theft. This is an area that is traditionally not covered in most training courses at University and College and is misunderstood by a lot of people. This seminar is designed to better inform you so you can protect yourself should you find someone is copying your work. It will also tell you how you can use licensing to increase the potential of certain designs or products and the potential pitfalls and benefits of choosing to license an idea. Topics covered by the speakers include:
  • How to protect your designs
  • What is protected by common law commercial use
  • What is the cost of pursuing IP violations
  • How effective is international IP protection
  • How to go about licensing an idea
  • How to establish a business relationship between a licensee and licensor
  • How to attract potential licensees
  • How to access licensing trade fairs and related events
  • How to develop a license agreement
  • Case studies
Speakers:
NESTA – An overview of IP and copyright
Own It – Licensing and copyright and how do you use them
Hope London Morris – Case studies
Briffa – The cost of IP protection
