About Pete Hickman
Listening to Pete Hickman’s music reminds me of gazing into a crystal grey sky as encroaching black clouds linger in the wings of my vision frame. As the dark clouds merge overhead, allowing pale chinks of sunlight through their armour, you sense a storm could break through the layered air. But the rain that eventually falls is light and has the pleasant effect of cooling a hot face. It sits on your eyelashes magnifying light reflections. Pete’s music captures the mood of the sky at these moments. A wistful smile is drawn on your face as it stirs up the strange pleasure of sadness.
The openly lyrical quality of his music will undoubtedly evoke different responses in each listener. By creating a sound that is thought provoking and at times melancholic allows the auditor a bridge between the universal themes of life and their own experiences. Knowing Pete has led a somewhat nomadic life, so far taking him all over the world from Brazil, Holland, and many locations around England, lends perspective to his song ‘Nothing is Permanent’. It touches on an emotion of loss that unveils itself in different ways in all our lives.
A talented composer, Pete Hickman infuses some John Lennon inspired riffs into his guitar playing. His songs unfold slowly in a manner akin to legendary musical storyteller Jeff Buckley, and when coupled with a worldly contemplation reminiscent of a young Thom Yorke you can bet you’re in for some pretty emotive stuff.
