In the midst of the mid-nineties, amongst the likes of Oasis, Pulp and the Stone Roses, two bright young students were finding their feet.
With next-door neighbour Mr. Krishna as an inspiration for a name, ‘Krish’ was irrevocably formed in 2003. Sticking to their true Britpop and neighbourly roots, an indie band with a difference was created, whilst the rest of the generation toddled off towards black clothes, safety pins and dyed-hair. Krish then became a hybrid of Indian classical- raga music that Mr. Krishna kindly provided- now renamed Raga-rock.
The London-based band has had a frequent long-distance relationship with the Loughborough University campus, performing in front of masses- 2000 people to be precise- on several occasions at ‘Freefest,’ the student music gala. As well as a brand new line-up consisting of bassist, Joe, Simon the drummer and female lead vocals, Ms. Gemma since early 2006.
Despite the prospect of being Doctors and Graphic Designers, Krish’s soul purpose is set on the music, with exciting new material being produced. As described, Gemma’s vocalist expertise and Crispian Mills styled male voice and melodies has landed Krish as an indie-band with a Indian twist.
Amid potential sitars and tablas in the making, it is clear that there will be much more eastern influences to immerse our musical ears in. Now this will blow ‘Govinda Jaya’ out of the running this year, Krish are in town!,/p>
