Daniel’s music is acoustic lyrical and melodic. Tunes quiver as they are fired out of his amply sized mouth. His voice sometimes breaks and crackles with the nostalgic pleasure of an old vinyl record. This love of days past is blended beautifully with a fresh sense of new beginnings especially in his track Hotel Room where he sings ‘It’s like the first bluebells of the spring and like the first in a line of Kings’. In other tracks such as Hearts and Bones we are transported to a real barn dance like experience where the folk music blend of accordion, whistle and fiddle sets the toes-a-tapping. Always simple yet always fresh, Daniel Rachel displays his versatility and imagination with vibraphone jazz when evoking the broody darkness of an alternative cinema he knew called Tivoli Flicks.
